Power Hour is our year-long, career-readiness program for high-school girls in Miami-Dade. The young women in this cohort will run this city's next decade, and they're looking to learn from the women running it now. Whether you're a college student or a working professional, this is where you start.

As an applicant to volunteer with Girls Inc. of Greater Miami, I affirm and attest that I meet the moral character requirements for the role, in that:
I have not been arrested with disposition pending or found guilty of, regardless of adjudication, or entered a plea of nolo contendere or guilty to, or been adjudicated delinquent and the record has not been sealed or expunged for, any offense prohibited under any of the following provisions of the Florida Statutes, or under any similar statute of another jurisdiction.

A Power Hour mentor is not one of those roles, so these do not apply to you. They are shown because the form is reproduced in full.
I also affirm that I have not been designated as a sexual predator pursuant to s. 775.21, F.S.; a career offender pursuant to s. 775.261, F.S.; or a sexual offender pursuant to s. 943.0435, F.S., unless the requirement to register as a sexual offender has been removed pursuant to s. 943.04354, F.S.
I understand that I must acknowledge the existence of any applicable criminal record relating to the above lists of offenses, including those under any similar statute of another jurisdiction, regardless of whether or not those records have been sealed or expunged.
Further, I understand that while volunteering with Girls Inc. of Greater Miami in any position that requires background screening, I must immediately notify my supervisor of any arrest and any changes in my criminal record involving any of the above listed provisions, whether a misdemeanor or felony. This notice must be made within one business day of such arrest or charge. Failure to do so could be grounds for ending the placement.

Power Hour is a career readiness program for girls in grades 9-12 across Miami-Dade. Industry mentors sit on the expert panel for their career cluster's spotlight session, reaching the whole group, and work with a small group of 11th and 12th graders as they build their social innovation project.
You're there to help students apply their learning to their projects. Along the way, you'll share about your own journey and get to know your mentees so you can provide insight and personalized guidance. You'll spend the most time with a group of 11th & 12th graders.
Prep & During The Program:
Six Saturdays, October through April:
She arrives, meets her peers, and gets a first look at the four career clusters she'll explore across the year.
One career cluster takes the spotlight each session. She hears from professionals in that field and starts learning what's out there.
Each session, she works a real skill: how to tell her story, make a case, think through a problem, execute with a team.
She picks a problem she cares about and works with her team toward a solution, applying her new learning along the way.
Alongside her team, she presents her pitch to industry professionals, mentors and peers, and celebrates a year of growth.

Power Hour is a career readiness program for girls in grades 9-12 across Miami-Dade. College mentors are a vital part of the program, supporting general session needs and working to build a mentoring relationship with a small group as they identify their interests.
You're there to help walk students through the activities and apply their learning to their projects. Along the way, you'll share about your own journey and the college experience. You'll spend the most time with a group of 9th and 10th graders.
